Please remember that our Famous Americans museum will be Thursday Feb. 25 in the commons. We will begin at 2:00 pm. Your child is preparing all of the work at school. The only part that needs to be done at home is preparing the costume.
Please do not go out and spend a ton of money. Be creative, ask family and friends, go to the thrift shops, whatever you can think of!
Each year a Dental Health poster contest is open in 3rd grade students in our area. This year 421 students in 23 different schools made posters for the contest. They award 10 students with $100 savings bonds. One of our classmates won!
Avrie was selected at one of the 10 winners. Her poster will be shown on WBAY Monday (Feb. 15) between 6-7am. She will also receive her poster back framed in March and will receive a $100 savings bond!
Brooke, another one of our classmates, was chosen as a runner-up winner and will receive a prize in March as well.
Hemlock Creek dominated the contest this year. 3 out of the 10 winners came from Hemlock Creek, with three more receiving runner-up prizes!
Great job girls!
Students recently completed a digital story project. What this means is they went through the writing process to write a story but didn’t publish it with pencil and paper. Instead, they illustrated it using TuxPaint on the computer. They then recorded their story with microphones.
Wisconsin Public Radio has a contest each year for 3-12 grade students who do digital work. I submitted these stories to the contest. I will let you know if anyone in the class wins.
If you are interested in seeing your child’s story, please send me an email and I can email them to you. They can be viewed in Windows Media Player on your home computer.
We will be having a little celebration on Friday afternoon, February 12. If you want to donate a snack or drink, that is completely up to you and your family and anything is appreciated.
In terms of individual valentines, that is, of course, voluntary but we will take time to exchange them. The students will be making up containers to put them in on Thursday. If your child wishes to participate, that would be great. If not, that is perfectly fine as well.
I have included a class list of first names in case your child wants to hand address them. Please let me know if you have any questions.

On Friday, athletic trainer and soon to be physical therapist Tom Krahn came to our classroom. (He is also Miss Albers’ soon to be husband). He knows A LOT about bones and muscles and was happy to share his knowledge with us. We took a review quiz on the Senteo clickers. We also looked at pictures he had from his year working for the Packers. We learned how they treat and strengthen their muscles.
One really neat part was when he showed us X-Rays from real players (we just didn’t know whose x-rays they were). These showed pins, screws, plates, and breaks in their bones. Finally he showed us how to tape ankles and splint wrists to help our bones and muscles if they need it.
We really liked the black strips he gave us for under our eyes. We will look like tough atheletes now when we play sports!

Hemlock Creek is participating in the “Fuel Up to Play 60” program. This program is sponsored by the NFL and the National Dairy Council. Students are able to sign up online and log their healthy food choices and exercise activities. There are great prizes, like iPods, that they could win.
The Wisconsin Dairy council also has a blog where teachers can share ideas about how their school is doing with the “Fuel Up to Play 60” program. Miss Albers posted some ideas and comments and was selected as a weekly prize winner. A Greg Jennings autographed football is going to be mailed to school! It will proudly be displayed in the trophy case.
So log on http://www.FuelUpToPlay60.com and make some healthy choices!
